What is a Primary Healthcare Need?

For you or your relative is to receive NHS Continuing Healthcare, they would need to demonstrate that they have a “primary healthcare need”.

A primary healthcare need arises from a person’s state of health and must be contrasted to social care needs.

Social care needs will generally include such things as a person requiring some assistance with their personal care such as dressing, feeding, washing, going to the toilet and generally getting around which of course describes many of the limitations experienced by elderly people.
